Northern New Mexico Trail Crew

August 21-24

Lend a hand, clear a trail

I’m excited to announce that, with the help of New Mexico Wild and Runners For Public Lands, we will be organizing an extended weekend of wilderness trail maintenance in the Pecos Wilderness of Northern New Mexico.

When I moved to Santa Fe in 2019, I immediately fell in love with the Pecos - the humble backdrop to the capital city at the southern end of the Rocky Mountains. However, with the changing climate and a shrinking trail crew from the US Forest Service, it quickly became clear that the hundreds of miles of trails that weave through the Pecos would need additional love and support.

For me, part of the appeal for targeting the specific zone that I proposed for a hitch (trail crew lingo for an extended work trip) is that these miles are deep in the backcountry, requiring the fitness and stamina of runners and strong hikers to access.

Whether you live in the Santa Fe area or are keen on visiting, I hope you’ll consider joining us for a few days to give back to the trails that have given us the many miles of smiles that we take for granted.
